Major League Baseball
What do you want them to do?
Use Instant Replay in Baseball
What is Major League Baseball still doing without instant replay? We have seen time and time again badly blown calls to change outcomes of games, even seasons. Technology can slow down events to thousands of frames per second without any effort, and baseball still refuses to institute a replay review rule.
We all remember Jim Joyce blowing Armando Galarraga’s perfect game by making an awful call at first base. Galarraga retired the first 26 batters he faced, but his bid for a perfect game was ended one out short when first base umpire Jim Joyce blew a call on an infield ground ball. Galarraga instead finished with a one-hit shutout in a 3–0 victory. Joyce spoke with the media following the game and admitted he made a mistake: “I just cost the kid a perfect game.”
Then there was the 2011 Braves–Pirates 19th inning missed call by Jerry Meals when Pirates catcher Michael McKenry tagged Braves runner Julio Lugo out three feet in front of home plate but Meals called him safe, giving the Braves the win in the 19th inning.
Both of these mistakes were easily avoidable by simply reviewing the call. Whether it be the option to challenge plays, like the NFL, or simply review questionable calls like the NBA, something needs to change. Please sign this petition if you agree!
